Lavelle Dobermans is located on 4 acres in Steamburg, New York, just one exit past Alleghany State Park on Route 86. Our Dobermans are part of our family, so we do not have a formal “kennel”. Our 6 Dobermans live in our 1800 square foot home and are quite content to sleep in front of a roaring fire in the winter, as they are playing in their fenced in 3 acres in the summer. They are members of our family and are very well taken care of. We believe that your Doberman will be a lifelong companion. Because of that, we put the health and happiness of our dogs first and foremost in our lives. We do not have human children, just Dobie kids!

Feeding.  We feed our dogs only Canidae Dog Food. It is all natural and has human grade ingredients. Our dogs coats are beautiful and their health is excellent. We believe a big reason for this is their diet. Because they are fed an all natural food, they put out a lot less poop too! SO you may want to consider keeping them on this diet. I would be happy to find a store near you that sells Canidae Dog Food products. In addition to this healthy dog food, they are given treats such as boiled eggs, cottage cheese, green and red peppers, apples, carrots and yogurt. All our dogs can eat off a spoon! They are that spoiled! They are that worth it.

Ears & Tails.  We do have puppies tails docked and have dew claws removed. All puppies are wormed and have their age appropriate shots. Our dogs are all “Z gene” cleared. And have no familial incidents of Von Willdebards disease. We do not crop our Dobermans ears. We believe this practice is cruel and only for our human needs. It is cosmetic and there are some studies that suggest it is traumatic for the dog. Puppies have their first “fear imprint stage” from 8 to 11 weeks of age. Precisely the time when ear cropping is done. If this proves to be traumatic, it can effect your dog for the remainder of it’s life. We prefer the European look, also called the natural look. It makes for a less fierce looking Doberman. We have gotten many positive comments on how beautiful our dogs are with their natural ears. The practice of ear cropping is illegal worldwide, except here in the Untied States. However, we leave the decision of ear cropping to the purchaser. If you do decide to crop your puppies ears, we strongly suggest you use our vet, as he is a Doberman fanatic and has great expertise in ear cropping. Not all vets do! It is an artistic endeavor and should only be done by a vet with vast experience. You will have to take possession of the puppy at 7 weeks 7 days old or pick the puppy up from our vet's office after the surgery is complete. Follow up with our vet is a must! Please ask for details when you call about a puppy.

Registration.  All our puppies are AKC/NKC registered. You will receive limited AKC/NKC registration papers when you pick your puppy up. If you want full AKC/NKC registration, there will be an additional charge for the puppy.

Breeding Companion Dogs.  There are many facets to breeding fine companion or show Doberman Pinschers. The most important thing for a prospective family to know about their breeder is this – that the breeder has the best interest of their dogs and puppies, and the families that adopt the puppies, at heart. Find someone you trust! DO not compromise on this issue! Breeders should be patient and up front and answer all your questions and concerns. If they don’t, pick someone else!

References.  Remember that a reputable Doberman Pinscher breeder will always require you to answer specific questions ranging from asking you to explain why you would want a Doberman puppy to requesting you provide a vet reference, if you already have pets. I will not sell you a puppy just because you have the funds available to purchase it! We will be a lifelong support to you and your Doberman, it would be our pleasure to learn about your puppy and his new home.

Considering a Puppy?   Doberman Pinschers are not for everyone. Please do your homework before choosing a Doberman if you have never owned one before. Dobermans require much human contact and companionship. They are considered “Velcro” dogs when it comes to their families. Where you are, they want to be. Left to their own devices, they become bored, irritable, even destructive. Most Dobies, our included, would give their lives for their families. Our prayer is that all the families that take our puppies home will include them as members of their family. Dobermans are not a breed to be left out in the back yard alone or played with when the mood strikes you. They are loyal companions to share your life with!
