Lavelle Dobermans started with one Black and Tan female named Sophie. She was a rescue pup we got from the SPCA. She was surrendered by her breeder with 6 of her brothers. That is why we do not have her AKC Registration and she is spayed. We had wanted a Doberman for quite some time, but still had 2 old collies that we adored and didn’t want to stress them in their old age. So we waited until Max and Leo went to dog heaven. Then we found Sophie. It was love at first sight.
I spent all day at the kennel getting to know her before they were officially released for adoption. I waited in a warm June rain for 2 hours and was blessed enough to be second in a line of hundreds. So I ended up getting the only female and the exact dog I wanted. Our beauty Sophie!
We fell in love with her wonderful intelligence and fierce loyalty. She was by far the smartest dog we had ever owned. And the most athletic. She is a master frizbee and ball catcher. She would run in the 5 acre back woods we had for hours and never get tired of playing with her toys. She smiled at us whenever she was happy and would give kisses whenever asked. We could not get over the fact that no matter how tired she was at the end of the day, she would check on us at least 2 times a night to make sure we were okay. Giving us a quick kiss and smile then going back to bed. She still does this every single night!
When Sophie was 7 months old, we decided she needed a friend. We found Fergus at a farm. He was the most filthy puppy I have ever seen. Covered in dirt, his home being a hole dug in the dirt floor of a drafty barn with a single light blub over head for heat. I instantly fell in love with his calm nature. We wrapped him up in a blanket and he became Doberman # 2 in the Lavelle family. But he was by no means # 2 in our hearts. His sweet, gentle nature earned him the nick man the Muffin Man with our neighbors. Fergus has the Doberman “chop chop” trait! Again, like Sophie’s smiles, another trait I had never seen in a dog before! When Fergus wants something he will look at you and snap his mouth open and closed, like “chop chop”! It is very comical! He is not the best ball player but tries his hardest. He is, like all Doberman’s, a true “velcro” dog. He would rather be next to me than anywhere else on earth. And that is where I would like to have him 24/7. He is just a big sweet lap dog! Fergus’s favorite thing to do is run the hills in the back of our old home. When we moved and he got 3 acres fenced in, it just wasn’t the same. So he gets a trip to the hills for fun every once in a while! He smiles when he runs and you can just see how happy he is. Fergus is not AKC registered and is neutered.
When Fergus was 2, we went to look at a little Red male. Never go to “just look” at puppies! And Murphy became a part of the Lavelle Doberman family. Murphy is our first AKC registered Doberman. His dad, the Duke, was one of the largest Dobermans’ I have ever seen. Murphy may not be the biggest in size, but he sure is the biggest in heart. He has the greatest personality! Will kiss you just to death! Silly and comical. He loves to walk around the house with a raw hide hanging out of his mouth like a cigar. He always makes us laugh. Watching him run is one of my favorite things to do. His confirmation is just perfect! I wish time allowed me to enter him in agility competitions. He loves to leap and run and jump over anything that might be in his path. Murphy is our ever vigilant watch dog. If a bird flies by at night, Murphy is out the doggy door and on the prowl. He loves playing with the other dogs and is well socialized. After we got Murphy, we started toying with the idea of getting him a girl friend. We decided to wait for just the right pup. We waited about 2 years.
That was when we met a little Blue and Tan pup that we just knew had to join our family. We named her Hazel. She is also AKC registered and like Murphy comes from exceptional blood lines. She is magnificent, according to our vet! Beautiful blue coat, tall and lanky. She runs like a gazelle! She is very smart and gentle. Hazel loves to lounge in front of the fireplace and have her belly petted. She is one of the gentlest dogs I have ever met. She adores Fergus and Murphy and they are together all the time. We decided to let Hazel and Murphy mate and they had their first litter of pups in December of 2005. Hazel is a wonderful mom and I loved helping and watching her raise those babies!
We decided to keep the best black male in the litter. That is how Otto (German for born 8th, which he was!) joined the Lavelle clan. He is has all the best traits from both Hazel and Murphy. He has Murphy’s good kissing ability with Hazel’s gentle sweet personality! He is more laid back than even Fergus! The best of both of our favorites. We decided he needed a girlfriend. So that is how we came to have Isabelle. See his siblings here! AKC registered.
Isabelle is from a breeder in Missouri. She is from show lines and is smaller than Otto, although only 4 days younger. She has fine china doll features and a feisty disposition. She maybe small, but she is the first to explore and find new things to do! Otto and Isabelle adore each other and do everything together. We look forward to them being old enough to mate! We believe they will throw fabulous puppies, with gentle loving dispositions and beautiful confirmation. Perfect for family pets or show. AKC Registered.
Well, that is how Lavelle Dobermans came to be. We absolutely love the breed and will do everything we can to breed responsibly. Our dogs have the best vet care available. We also feed all natural holistic dog food, which leads to beautiful coats and graeat health. We strongly recommend this diet to all who purchase our puppies.
